PRESS RELEASE – August 2009
HIGH-FEED CUTTING TOOL PROGRAM ON SHOW AT
AERO ENGINEERING EVENT
A high-feed
milling cutting tool program, which boosts productivity and achieves faster
metal removal rates on a range of difficult-to-machine materials, will be on
show at ATI Stellram’s stand 214 at the AeroEngineering
exhibition (Manchester, 10-11 November).
The Stellram®
7792VX program has been developed for facing, plunging, pocketing and slotting
applications on a wide variety of metals such as high temperature alloys and
stainless steels.
The
versatile milling cutter is available in a selection of shank types and
accommodates 9mm and 12mm inserts in a choice of hard-wearing grades including
X500, part of ATI Stellram’s industry-proven X-Grade™ Technology insert
program.
Thanks to
the unique design of the tool and insert, cutting forces can be directed
axially into the spindle, delivering better stability and less spindle wear.
The
performance of the 7792VX has already impressed one of Europe’s leading
aircraft component makers, V. La Gatta, who has not only dramatically improved
chip removal rates, but also attained a 30% improvement in machining times.
The
Italian-based company says the high-feed milling cutter has significantly
helped boost the facing operation of titanium fittings used in the assembly of
cargo door surrounds. “Very good results have been achieved so far even though
the cutter has only been used at 75% of its potential,” commented director
Chiara La Gatta.
Visitors to
ATI Stellram’s stand at the AeroEngineering show will
also be able to learn more about other cutting tool programs including the new
solid carbide RSM program which is specially designed for aerospace machining
applications.
